KIGALI, RWANDA. Basketball federation, Ferwaba started recently intensive preparations to host a successful Afro-basketball U-18 Kagame Cup scheduled to be held at Amahoro indoor stadium from October 8-17. The tournament which has received huge sponsorship from President Paul Kagame will attract twelve teams from the continent. President Kagame who was recently elected for a second term has been potential sponsor of the regional Cecafa club championship since 2002 as well as local championships in Athletics, Cycling and volleyball. The teams that have already qualified for the biannual event include defending champions Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Mali, Angola, Zimbabwe, Gabon, Congo Brazzaville and hosts Rwanda. Hosts Rwanda have seen its U-18 team train in the United States of America in training camps of San Diego and Los Angeles so as to elevate the competition level of the youth before they battle Africa's elite junior | More » |
